Welcome Back AVID students & Parents!!!!!

The AVID program is looking forward to an exciting, and meaningful year. It is our goal to help better prepare our students for life after ECHHS, but while here we will continue to help students in our program develop the necessary skills to be successful. The AVID program's philosophy is to provide students with opportunity and tools, and teach them how to utilize them to exceed their goals, and our expectations.  We invite you to become a supporter of our program by becoming a volunteer, a resource, or a motivational speaker.  Once again welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at East Chapel Hill High School.

ECHHS AVID SCHOOL MISSION

It is the mission of the ECHHS faculty and staff to prepare all students for post-secondary education and life-long learning experiences through a challenging, interactive curriculum.  The purpose of the AVID program at ECHHS is to enhance the teaching methods of an entire school, and to open access to the curricula that will ensure four-year college eligibility for "students in the academic middle."

AVID (Advancement VIA Individual Determination) is an academic, regularly scheduled, international college preparatory elective class based on writing as a tool of learning, inquiry methods, and collaboration.  The three main components of the program are academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities. AVID is not  a remedial program.  It has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students, and in closing the achievement gap.
