Description of Lesson and/or Unit:
As part of a first grade lesson on nutrition, students visited an interactive Website from the Dairy Council of California featuring the revised food pyramid.

Using a SMART Board* enabled us to turn the Web site into a whole class activity, increasing the levels of teacher monitoring, student engagement - and fun.

Students came in turns to the SMART Board to click and drag foods to the proper food category.
There were speaking goals (paraphrasing, new vocabulary) listening goals and viewing goals for the activity. After the group activity, students used laptops to visit the site individually.

* A SMART Board is a large interactive white board which acts as both a display screen and a touch-sensitive tool.
