Using Senteo Response to Introduce Multiple choice test questions
First Grade teacher Courtney Sears needed to prepare student to fill out multiple choice test bubble sheets. She decided to introduce the concept of multiple choice question using the Smart Senteo Response system. Students were able to use the senteo "clickers" to enter their respective answers to a question displayed on the Smart Board. The Senteo system also allowed the students to the see results within seconds after they finished answering the question.
Students loved using the clickers and mastered the concept of multiple choice -- there were only two wrong answers out 85 responses.

Students use Web 2.0 technology to reinforce math skills Students used cameras to documented shapes found around the FPG campus (trash cans were the most popular; go figure). They then placed the pictures on the Voicethread web site and created multimedia presentations containing video, audio and digital photographs. Below is a link to the presentations
SCOS 1st Grade
Math
3.01 Identify, build, draw and name
parallelograms, squares, trapezoids, and hexagons. 5.01 Sort and classify objects by two attributes. COMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY SKILLS 1.08 Recognize the characteristics of multimedia (e.g., text, audio, images, video) 1.09 Identify and discuss multimedia terms/concepts ( e.g., slide/card, link/button, text box, navigate, transition) as a class/group activity
2.01 Use common computing devices and resources in class activities 2.07 Use multimedia software to illustrate words/phrases/concepts. |

Teaching Math Concepts
Overview
For
the last month first grade teacher Suzanne Stokes has been using a
computer graphics program as one part of her approach for teaching number sense and addition
concepts.
Practice
In the picture below, Mrs. Stokes talks with a child about the addition equation he created. First, the child used the program to insert two groups of pictures to the work space. He then count the number of objects in each group and placed the apporpriate number under each set. Next he added them together, and, last, typed in the result.

Below is a slightly clearer view of another child at work. The addition equation he created was "3 + 2 = 5."

CPU, monitor, keyboard, disk drive, printer, mouse
2.01 Use common computing devices and resources in class activities.
2.02 Observe, discuss, and use software to enter, calculate, display
data, and interpret results as a class/group.
2.07 Use multimedia software to illustrate words/phrases/concepts.
Math
1.01 Develop number sense for whole
numbers through 99.
1.03 Develop fluency with single-digit
addition and corresponding differences using strategies such as
modeling, composing and decomposing quantities, using doubles, and
making tens.
1.04 Create, model, and solve problems that use addition, subtraction, and fair shares (between two or three)
5.03 Create and extend patterns, identify
the pattern unit, and translate into other forms.
