LEAP Some students may be identified to participate in Learning Environment for Advanced Programming (LEAP), a district-wide self-contained program for highly gifted students. The purpose of the LEAP option is to create an appropriate learning environment to met the particular needs of highly gifted students, which often cannot be accommodated in the regular classroom. Students who qualify for LEAP have consistently demonstrated extraordinary levels of intellectual potential and academic achievement in both reading and math. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE 2006/2007 CHANGES IN LEAP IDENTIFICATION CAN BE FOUND ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE AT: HTTP://WWW.CHCCS.K23.NC.US/GIFTED/ NOMINATION FOR LEAP HIGHLY GIFTED OPTION Parents/Guardians may nominate their third through seventh grade students for LEAP identification. Students must score at or above the 97th percentile on a standardized aptitude test or on both reading and math achievement tests in order to be further evaluated for program identification. All third grade students take the Naglieri Nonverbal Aptitude Test and are screened by the school for nomination. "The Nomination for LEAP Option" form and test requirements are available on the district website at: http://www.chccs.k23.nc.us/Gifted/ . Nominations must be submitted to the home school by January 22, 2007 with documentation of the test scores administered before that date. This will be the only cycle this year for 4th - 7th graders, and the deadline is firm. For 3rd graders a second deadline of May 1, 2007 is available for testing administered after January 20, 2007. The form for submitting this information, "Grade 3 Nomination for LEAP Option: Cycle 2," is available on the district website.
