Teachers and students battled it out in the 2012 Cyclone Games, sponsored by the athletic boosters. Special thanks to all who participated and helped to make it happen!

The Booster Club and PTSA will host the  Cyclone Games  on Tuesday, Feb. 7 from 3:30pm-5:30pm in the gym. Admission is FREE but bring money to enter the raffle; tickets are $2. All proceeds benefit the PTA Thriftstore Building Campaign. Amazing prizes include Kindle Touch, YMCA 6-month membership, $50 TCBY gift card, and many others. Order forms went home in report card folder and can be turned into your homeroom teacher. Purchase raffle tickets by using the order forms sent home in report card folders; they can be turned in to your homeroom teacher. Or purchase raffle tickets at the Cyclone Games.

All Smith students are invited to participate, and families are invited to watch the fun. The Cyclone Games is a STUDENTS vs TEACHERS series of made-up games such as Scooter Basketball, Oversized Volleyball, and Football Frenzy. This year we have a [new] dance competition for Smith teachers and faculty. Come out and watch their freestyle!

All students must turn in a signed permission form , available on the Smith Athletics webpage . Space is limited so sign up early!!

In an effort to balance out the length of academic periods and maintain the integrity of the daily schedule we have decided to run delayed openings on a new schedule. The schedule is listed below. All periods will now be 31 minutes long on delayed opening days and classes will be in the same order as on any other day. We will use this schedule for all two hour delayed opening days for the remainder of the year.

Please join us on Wednesday, January 18 at 7:00pm in the Smith auditorium for an informative and frank discussion on your child's digital life. Parents will hear from Media Specialist Tori Gredvig and Technology Specialist Kevin Harvey on the digital life Smith's students are living. Topics include the good and the bad of being online, protecting your child and his/her privacy and future, and dealing with bullies, aggression, and social status. The event should last about an hour and is open to parents only.

Mark your calendars for Smith Middle School's 11th annual Global Connections Performance Night celebration on Wednesday, February 22nd from 6-8pm in Chapel Hill High School's Hanes Auditorium.

Come and support Smith students as they share with the community their talents that highlight cultures from around the world. Performances include original music, choral performances, poetry recitation, dancing, dramatizations, and much more. Travel around the world with us to explore and embrace our wonderfully diverse and culturally-rich community.

Tickets are $3 at the door. We hope to see you there!

Smith Middle School will hold an informal presentation for parents called, "Growing Up Online," on January 18, 2012 at 7pm in the auditorium (originally scheduled December 2011). More information to come!
